I don't like the new profile page even one bit, so I wrote a script to reset it. So far as I've tested, it works in all five LJ themes, using Firefox 3 on Windows Vista and XP.

Plus, fun of funs, you get to comment out things you don't care about seeing (like schools or virtual gifts).

(Userpic overlap is a known thing - I need to study up a bit on table structuring in order to fix it.)

Install and enjoy! Lemme know if something breaks!

[eta - 11/24] It's updated now to work with Firefox 2.0, as far as I can tell. With many thanks to soph. :)

[eta - 12/01] I got it to work with IE. Aiee! Go here if you're particularly daring.

[eta - 12/09] Probably checking the script page every few days would make more sense. I've added language support!

[eta - 12/18] LJ changed the page again, so I updated my script again. With thanks to galfridian for alerting me to their nefariousnessitude!

PS: Yall, I love scripting, and would not have made this public if I didn't like making this script better. (Plus grr LJ.) Also, I am a pickypants, and I have learned Javascript by cobbling things together. So I encourage you to report errors and improvements, no matter how slight. :)

If something is not working for you and you are in Firefox, please follow these steps:

* Go to Tools > Error Console.
* Hit the Clear button.
* In Firefox, with the script freshly installed (just in case), go to a profile that's failed for you.
* Once the page has fully loaded, go to the Error Console window and click the Errors button (located at the top). You should see an error message show up in here, ideally - the link underneath should be a path to lj_profile_reset.user.js. Select the error, right-click > Copy it, and post it as a new comment here.

Something seems a little wonky (see image) for me for the tags, otherwise this is great! Thanks. :)
Weeeird. Could you paste the code for that here?

- Select that block, from the Memories label to the end of the Tags line.
- Right-click>view selection source, then paste that into Notepad.
- Search/replace > with > and < with <.
- Pastify here.

Danke!

this works perfectly fine for me. haven't found any glitches yet. thank you!
i actually prefer the new profile page.. it looks a lot more professional and the info I look at more often is at the top right, without having to click next to another page..

Awesome! I knew someone would come through with a script to revert it. Thanks!
I don't mind the new profile, but this is a great script! I'm going to inform my flist of it, 'cause I know many of them wanted something like this.
Thank you so much! This works in Opera too, when used with soph's Greasemonkey adapter for Opera.

I am so happy right now. :)
It's not mine - I didn't make that Emulate GM Functions script. I just know that it's needed for some things.

Also, this script doesn't use any of the functions that the script emulates, so it'll work perfectly fine even without that.

I tried this and it didn't change the look of my profile at all. I'm using Firefox 3.0.4, Windows XP, and the Dystopia style. I had to install Greasemonkey first, but it installed fine with no complaints from Firefox. Let me know if you'd like a screenshot.
Pardon the obvious questions, I just want to be clear. You have GM installed, installed the script, and no change?

Weird. Go to Tools > Error Console, choose Clear if there's anything there, then refresh or load a profile page (any). What comes up in the Error section of the Error Console, if anything?

This works nicely. Thank you!
I can confirm that if you replace "document.getElementsByClassName" with "getElementsByClassName" and add the ultimate GetElementsByClassName into the code, this script works on Firefox 2.0.0.17 and probably other 2.0.0.x versions as well.

Maybe you could make available a version like this for Firefox 2? Everything seems to work fine as far as I can tell.

Well, almost. On http://community.livejournal.com/privchange/profile?mode=full on Firefox 2, the community name doesn't show up in the User: bit at the top, just the community icon and the thumbs up icon.

[edit: Hmm, actually, the username doesn't show up anywhere. Going to investigate now.]
[edit 2: Found the problem, it's due to another script I have. Not your fault!]

Just wanted to say OMG THANK YOU for putting this together, and that I've not only told my flist but also put a great big link to this page in my bio for random passers-by. There's definitely a lot of demand for this script out there, so I figure the more people who know about it, the better. :) Thanks again!
Thanks so much!
:)
Thank you so much!
I didn't realize how MUCH I missed the old profiles until I installed this and breathed a sigh of relief. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Awesome, thank you!!

One weird thing - now with this every time I go to a profile page it automatically reloads straightaway with ?mode=full. Know why this might happen? D:
Oh, because I wanted it. I always want mode=full, and never liked having to click on the &%*$ link.

...

Fine, fine, I shan't inflict my preferences too much. :) Updated - if you install now, it won't autoredirect.

Oh, that's AWESOME. I've been using Stylish and a script bitter_crimson wrote, but I think this is going to be the one from now on. Thank you!
OH MY GOD YOU ARE MY HERO. Thank you so, so, so much!

I clapped when I refreshed my profile and it looked NORMAL again. :D
Eee, thank you ever so much!
This is wonderful! It's so nice to see things back the way I want them to be. Thanks so much!
This is awesome! Thanks so much!
Any idea why it might only show one of my schools though? (Though, good lord, I'll gladly give up my school links for my old userinfo back.)
*blink*

*checks*

*facepalm*

It's fixed, good heavens. (For each school, I'd add a line to a variable, and then reset the variable. Smoooth.) :D

Random passer-by who stumbled across your script. Thankyou VERY MUCH for providing the opt-out option that LJ refuses to give. Honestly, I can't tell you how happy this piece of script makes me, and I'll be pimping you out on my journal now.

Thankyou thankyou!

Edit: Er, and a quick question, how do you hide the "Also Friend Of" portion of the profile?
Open the script for editing, and search for this line in the Set This block (somewhere in the line-500 range).

if (ljFriendOf) { setTable(ljFriendOf, 'Also Friend Of:'); }

Add double-slashes in front of the line, then save and exit, and reload a profile to see it changed.

//if (ljFriendOf) { setTable(ljFriendOf, 'Also Friend Of:'); }
I LOVE YOU! I have a Mac and it works with my Mac with Firefox. :)
OMG, I think I love you! Is there any chance you can write one to work with IE? And does this reset just your profile or everybody's?
replying to myself to say holy god, this rocks! I love this, you should show it to the lj people, to show them exactly how easy it can be fixed.
